The Family Assistance and Parent Support Program

Welcome from Our Program Coordinator

Dear Friends,

Every day we hear stories about another family that has been adversely affected by the adversarial family court process.  Most people, however, don't realize just how devastating this is to families until it hits someone they really know.  In some cases, the adversarial process can lead to very tragic results - the loss of a loved one because of suicide caused by the frustration of being beaten down by a system that is geared to pit one parent against the other.  Many of the domestic violence cases we hear so much about today in the newspapers, seem to have a common factor - the parents engaged in conflict through the adversarial family court system.

Sadly, there aren't enough people who stand for the best interests of children and their families and not enough programs to guide families through the process of separation and divorce.  Family members, especially children, need someone to speak up for them, to help ensure their best interests are protected and ensure that they receive the services they so desperately need.  Although many of our judges do their best to help children and families in the community, the current family court system often fails to get the necessary information before the judge in a timely and effective manner so that he/she can make an appropriate decision.  Truth often gets buried in false allegations and legal procedures, which are often used to delay matters as one side tries to get the upper hand over the other.  Because the current adversarial system makes one parent the winner and one the loser, both are forced to fight to the bitter end.

Unfortunately, children and families cannot wait while lawyers fight for only the interests of their clients. Tragically, many families lose everything they have in drawn out litigation battles and their children suffer emotionally and financially for the rest of their lives.

This terrible epidemic of abuse that we see today in our family court system seems so overwhelming that one may feel powerless to help. But by breaking down the task into smaller, more manageable pieces – one child and one family at a time will help to break the cycle family destruction.

For this reason, Family Conflict Resolution Services was was established back in late 1996 with a purpose to help break the cycle of family destruction caused through our current adversarial family court system.  Our goal is to stop the conflict that is affecting so many children and their families through education and involvement of the community.  Through our network of paid and volunteer workers who assist children and their families, we are working on making a difference in the lives of the children and families we work with.

Since 1996 we have been working on our program called "The Family Assistance and Parent Support Program".  We feel that the program we have developed is one of the the most advanced programs of its kind anywhere in the world.  It was developed to help put an end to high conflict separations and divorces.  Based on the input from the community as well as countless legal and health care professionals, our program has established standards for the best interests of the children and sets down what rights children of separation and divorce should have.  Our program offers the standards for the objective analysis needed to best ensure that children are being protected.  Our document "Effectively dealing with Hostile-Aggressive Parenting" which we began working on in 1999, was the first document of its kind anywhere which covers the issues of parenting behaviour in a format that most non-professionals could easily understand and identify.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many committed individuals and businesses in our community who have helped us develop our program by providing us with not only the emotional support but financial support as well.   I would also like to thank you, the reader, for visiting our web site and allowing us the opportunity to share with you the work we are doing to help children and families in communities everywhere, who have been so adversely affected by divorce and separation.

Regards,
